Delegate Code of Conduct
By registering as a delegate you accept every clause below. It is short on purpose. Read it once.
Applies to Sabarmati MUN, Edition One
1. Dress
Western or Indian formals for both days. Business suits, formal shirts and trousers, sarees, salwar suits, kurta with formal trousers or churidar, closed formal footwear. Committee sessions are simulations of professional bodies and you are expected to look like you belong in one.
Not permitted, for anyone: jeans of any kind including slashed, ripped or distressed denim, shorts, t-shirts, sportswear, sliders, slippers, sneakers, streetwear accessories such as caps, chains, bandanas and oversized logo pieces, and visibly unkempt or untidy hair.
Also not permitted: sleeveless or cut-sleeve tops, short skirts or short dresses, deep necklines, sheer or transparent fabric, peep-toe or open footwear, and anything backless or cropped.
The simplest test: if it would not pass in a professional office or a courtroom, it does not pass here. National dress representing your allotted country is welcome and encouraged. The Executive Board may ask a delegate who is inappropriately dressed to correct it before rejoining session, and repeated non-compliance may affect your standing in committee.
2. Conduct in committee
- Argue with the position, never with the person holding it. A portfolio is an assignment, not an identity, and nothing said in character excuses a personal attack.
- Content that demeans any person or group on the basis of religion, caste, gender, sexuality, disability, region, language or nationality is out of order, regardless of whether a portfolio might plausibly hold that view.
- Plagiarised position papers, resolutions, directives or press submissions lead to disqualification from awards and may lead to removal from committee.
- Artificial intelligence tools may be used for research. What you submit must be your own work and you must be able to defend any part of it if asked.
- Follow the direction of the Executive Board on procedure. Disagreement with a chair is raised with the Secretariat afterwards, not contested on the floor.
- Committee business stays inside the simulation. Do not carry a dispute from a session onto social media.
3. Conduct at the venue
- No alcohol, tobacco, controlled substances or intoxication of any kind at the venue or at any conference event, including the social evening. Arriving intoxicated is treated the same as consuming on site.
- No harassment. This includes unwanted physical contact, persistent unwanted attention, sexual or suggestive remarks, photographing a person who has asked not to be photographed, targeted mockery and intimidation of any kind. This applies between delegates, and equally to conduct directed at organizers, venue staff and the Executive Board.
- Identification badges must be worn at all times and are not transferable.
- Delegates may not leave the venue during session hours without informing an organizer, and delegates under eighteen may not leave without their accompanying faculty or guardian.
- Damage to the venue, equipment or property is charged to the individual responsible.
- Weapons, hazardous items, and any equipment brought without prior written permission are not allowed on site.
- Delegates below eighteen remain the responsibility of their accompanying faculty member or guardian outside session hours.
4. Media consent
Photography, video and audio are recorded throughout the conference by our International Press team and by organizers. By registering as a delegate you grant Sabarmati MUN a perpetual, royalty free, non exclusive right to use, reproduce, edit and publish that material, along with your name, allotted portfolio, committee, institution and awards, across our website, social media, printed material, reports and promotional communications, in India and elsewhere, without further approval, notice or payment.
This consent is a condition of participation and cannot be withdrawn selectively. Score sheets are published with delegate names, committees and portfolios as part of our public commitment to transparency.
5. Liability
- You attend at your own risk. Sabarmati MUN, its Secretariat, Executive Board, Organizing Team, advisors, partners and the venue are not liable for personal injury, illness, or loss of or damage to personal property, however caused, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.
- You are responsible for your own travel, accommodation, insurance and medical needs. Please disclose any medical condition or allergy at registration so we can plan for it.
- You are liable for any loss or damage you cause to any person or property.
- You confirm that the information given at registration is true, and that if you are under eighteen your parent or guardian has consented to your participation and to this code on your behalf.
6. Breach
Depending on severity, a breach may result in a warning, disqualification from awards, removal from committee, or removal from the conference without refund. Your institution and, where you are a minor, your parent or guardian may be informed. Where a matter involves a minor or a possible criminal offence we will involve the appropriate authority, and we will not offer confidentiality we are not able to keep.
Decisions on breach are made by the Secretariat and are final.
7. Raising a concern
Speak to any member of the Secretariat or the Organizing Team at the venue, or write to sabarmatimun@gmail.com.
Anything you would rather not raise with the organizing team goes directly to our Executive Advisor and appellate authority, Mr. Manas Dowlani, whose decision on any matter of conduct is final and binding. Reach him through sabarmatimun@gmail.com marked for his attention, or through the number published on this site.
Every report is taken seriously and handled discreetly.
8. General
This code sits alongside our registration terms and both should be read together. It is governed by the laws of India, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
